Bob has been building business software applications and teaching complex computing topics since 1967 for companies large and small. He has worked for large, complex organizations like Chrysler and Ford Aerospace, IBM and Microsoft, and has founded, managed and participated in several successful startups.
Bob has been a business software consultant since the early 1990's and spent many years teaching complex computing concepts to hundreds of professionals and other consultants at dozens of large organizations. And, he confesses to having spent way too much time on airplanes and in hotels.
In 2001, Bob and his wife, Donna chose to leave the fast track of big city living and focus their lives on community involvement. They chose Bellingham as the ideal city and relocated here in early 2002. That year, he joined Office Systems Northwest where he met Dick DeWaard. When Office System's business focus shifted towards the end of 2003, Dick and Bob made an agreement with Office System's owners and started their own business with their blessing.
Bob blends his passions for people and communication with deep technical knowledge, allowing him to bridge the gap between business people and technology experts.
Bob is recognized for his ability to blend hands on technical knowledge with strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills. He is an experienced teacher, manager, consultant and coach, and a software developer who understands the needs and challenges of small business.

“There are smart guys, wise guys, and guys who really are wise. Rob is wise! Volunteer situations often bring out the best in people. I had the chance to participate in an intense weeks-long school technology assessment & recommendation committee with Rob. He consistently balanced technical acumen with perspective and humor. (He also managed to listen, participate, and take notes for everyone at the same time. Whoa...) Most important, he kept our focus on the reasons for being there. Great guy for board, business or project. I'd welcome the chance to work with him again.”

Steve started out his career as an Electronics Engineer, but after being invited on a sales call to demonstrate a new technology, he became hooked on sales and marketing and never looked back. Something about the human interaction element trumps the satisfaction of designing new machines. With a history of working for companies that get bought by larger companies (Digital Equipment by Compaq, Compaq by HP, FileNet by IBM), Steve found himself in Bellingham… which is a pretty good place to find oneself! Steve joined with The Socrates Group in the early part of 2008 and has been focused on branding, awareness, and spreading the word of the good work that The Socrates Group delivers.

A recent graduate of Western Washington University, Matthew has a Bachelors of Arts from the College of Business and Economics, with a major in Management Information Systems. The course of study allowed him to merge the tangible fundamentals of business and commerce with the more esoteric world of software and programming. Sydney started programming on a TI-80 (do you remember those?) in BASIC with her dad; they wrote a hangman program when she was 7 years old. The next project was to make her Fat Mac laugh authentically with voice automation. Since those days, she has become an experienced database and web developer - specializing in web applications and online data integration. Sydney bases her consulting work from Paige Data Management, a business she started 10 years ago.
She has two beautiful daughters, and plays cello and piano in her (largely nonexistent) free time.
